Rookies 2017 Spring Season (Ages 3-5)

The Halifax League Rookie Program is designed for younger boys and girls to learn the basic skills of hockey, while having FUN! We have mini drills and games that are fun and give players experience learning the basics of hockey. This program gives players exercise, encourages sportsmanship, and most importantly gets players engaged on the rink.

Repetition is used weekly to allow all participants the opportunity to understand what we are teaching and then practice the drills thereby developing basic playing skills.

All skills taught must be demonstrated very slowly to the players since the players are quite young and must completely understand the movements required to master a skill.

Typically the first half of the session is used for drills and exercises and the second half is for a scrimmage game.

Please refer to the Learn to Play - Rookies Instruction Guide below:  <attach document when ready>

Visit our Volunteer section to fill out a coaching registration form to help out! Promoting a positive environment and teaching sportsmanship, respect, and having fun are most important.

Weather Policy:

Games are played in the rain. Games may be canceled in extreme weather conditions such as: heavy rain, thunder, lightning, high winds, rain with low temperatures. We may be renting some indoor gym time for the first few weeks of the season to accommodate an unpredictable Halifax spring!!
